Affair Recovery Retreat Counseling in Florida

Rebuild trust and heal your relationship after a betrayal

The days after discovering a betrayal can feel surreal and out-of-body. One moment can unravel your sense of reality, making you look back and question everything up to this point – and how to move forward.

Your emotions might be all over the place, and that’s normal. Discovering an affair is a form of betrayal trauma. Your nervous system literally has to adjust to a new reality. In response, you might numb, rage, or feel desperate for answers you can’t get fast enough. You relentlessly search for a moment of calm you can’t find anywhere.

If you’re in the middle of that chaos, it’s hard to imagine ever feeling okay again. But a form of recovery is possible, especially with the right support.

As a licensed therapist in Florida, I work with couples recovering from infidelity and betrayal trauma every day. You might be surprised to hear that over half of couples decide to stay together after a disclosed affair.

But of course, an outcome is never guaranteed, and only you know the right choice for you. Staying or leaving can both be valid, healthy choices.

Therapy is an important part of the healing process either way. You become more confident that your decision comes from a grounded place. Not from raw pain or a reaction you’ll second-guess years down the road.

Affair recovery and healing betrayal trauma

Affair Recovery Counseling in Florida

Many couples decide to stay together and repair after an affair. But healing doesn’t happen by just waiting for things to calm down and the pain to hurt less so you can move on. It comes from slowing down and actually repairing what feels broken.

Without support, couples often try their best but stay stuck, circling the same questions without ever feeling like it’s actually helping them feel better. Or they think they’ve healed, until old pain resurfaces in a fight years later, creating more resentment, distance, and even re-traumatization.

Affair recovery counseling in Florida is a specialized form of couples therapy focused on healing from the betrayal trauma. We focus on rebuilding trust and safety and helping both partners process what actually happened so that you can support each other in healing.

I offer affair recovery counseling FL couples can access in person in Naples or virtually anywhere in the state.

This isn’t a communication workshop or a general skills class. It’s a targeted infidelity counseling, built for the specific pain that follows betrayal.

Infidelity & Affair Recovery Counseling

My approach to affair recovery therapy starts with space to process, for both of you. That includes how the disclosure itself gets handled, so you’re not left guessing what happened or what still needs to be said. If the betrayal was emotional rather than physical, healing from emotional infidelity often follows a similar road, just with its own layers to untangle.

Space To Process

Affair recovery therapy starts with space to process. Both partners need room to speak and be heard, often for the first time since discovery.

That includes working through how and what gets disclosed, so nothing feels hidden or rushed.

Betrayed Partners

We supposed betrayed partners in processing the intense emotional impact of the trauma.

Shock, hypervigilance, obsessive thoughts, and grief are all common. Safety needs to be rebuilt before trust can follow and trauma responses can soften.

Betraying Partner

For the partner who strayed, we support them in facing shame and fear. Staying present matters, even when it’s uncomfortable.

Real accountability means answering hard questions honestly, and showing, clearly, how things will be different going forward.

Rebuild Trust

Once both partners feel steady enough to engage, we begin the slower work of rebuilding trust and healing communication patterns.

This work happens gradually. Trust is rebuilt through consistency, accountability, and honest conversation, not one breakthrough moment.

Affair Recovery Couples Retreat – Two Day Intensive

In contrast to traditional weekly one-hour sessions, a marriage retreat is a two-day experience. You and your partner come in together in person and get intensive, focused work with a certified EFT therapist, over back-to-back days instead of an hour here and there.

Some couples search for this format as an EMS weekend or an intensive retreat. But to be clear, this isn’t a quick fix. Healing from an affair doesn’t happen in a weekend. What a retreat gives you is a real starting point, and far more support than a typical week allows.

1

A Focused Starting Point
Healing takes real time. There’s no shortcut when you’re working to recover from an affair. But a two-day intensive can give you a strong starting point, one where you disclose fully, get everything out in the open, and begin setting the patterns that will carry you forward.

I use Emotionally Focused Therapy to guide this work. EFT gives us a map for how we spend the two days, not just extra hours together. It helps us look underneath the affair itself, at the patterns that led here, so the changes you make are more likely to stick.

2

More Ground to Cover Than Weekly Sessions Allow
Affair recovery asks a lot of a couple. The disclosure process itself, the impact of the betrayal, and the communication patterns that can keep you both stuck, unable to help each other heal. Plus, there are the patterns that left the relationship open to this happening in the first place.

None of this is about blame. It’s about understanding what happened, together, so you can build something more secure. An intensive gives us plenty of time to unpack all the pieces that need to be put back together more smoothly than weekly sessions alone can.

3

Continued Processing
One of the biggest benefits of a retreat is the amount of support packed into that short window. Instead of one hour a week to process everything happening between you, you get several focused hours a day, back to back, for two full days.

That concentrated time creates a foundation. From there, most couples continue with weekly Zoom sessions to keep that progress going. You’re not just processing once and hoping it fixes everything. You’re building on it, step by step, week after week, with a foundation already in place.

My Approach to Affair Recovery

1

Trauma Informed
An affair doesn’t just break a promise. It shakes your sense of reality. A lot of people say the lie hurts more than the affair itself, because it changes how you see the past and the future. You start questioning things you never thought to question.

I treat this the way I’d treat any trauma. Your body and mind need real space to catch up to what happened, not just one conversation and a move on.

2

Relationally Focused
I’m relationally trained and certified in Emotionally Focused Therapy. EFT is an evidence-based method for understanding the mechanics and the science of relationships, and how to help them heal.

It’s built specifically to help partners heal together, and rebuild a sense of security with each other, not just talk through what happened. That gives us a real map for the work ahead.

3

Nonjudgmental Accountability
I support both partners without judgment for what’s happened. That doesn’t mean anything goes. Understanding why something happened is never an excuse for it.

We look at where the relationship, or one partner, became vulnerable. Not to assign blame, but to actually heal it. That’s how you both start to feel steady again, and trust that this won’t happen again.

What to Expect as You Recover From an Affair

Recovery usually feels worse before it feels better. That’s normal. It’s part of the process, not a sign something’s going wrong.

With the right support, a relationship can survive an affair. It won’t look exactly like it did before. It becomes something new.

  • Early on, we face the impact of the betrayal directly, instead of stepping around it. That means figuring out how much you actually need to know about what happened. You and your partner agree on that together. No more asking the same question five different ways at midnight.
  • It also means processing the lies themselves, not just the affair. Often the lying does more damage than the affair itself. Getting everything out on the table can feel like it’s making things worse at first. That’s the fire we walk through together, not around it.
  • Over time, we process what happens emotionally and physically as a result of the affair. That might look like naming an intrusive thought the moment it shows up, instead of white-knuckling through it alone. It might mean noticing your body tense up at a certain time of day, and figuring out why. Either way, you’re not managing this by yourself. You’re learning to lean on each other for support.

Is Affair Recovery Right for You?

You might be reading this in crisis, just days after discovery, still in shock. Or you might be months in, stuck in cycles of pain that won’t resolve. Both are common starting points.

Maybe you’re unsure about whether you’re staying or leaving, and that’s okay. You don’t need an answer before you start. It’s normal to ask yourself can a marriage survive infidelity. Affair recovery counseling can help you find clarity either way.

That said, this work goes best when both partners are willing to engage, even imperfectly. If one partner refuses to participate honestly, progress becomes much harder.

The goal here isn’t to save every relationship at all costs. The goal is clarity and healing, for both of you, whatever that ultimately looks like.
