Stop reliving the past and start feeling present

Trauma isn’t just about what happened in the past. It’s about how your mind and body still carry those experiences in the present. With trauma therapy, we can help your system update those patterns so you can feel more present and less held back by what’s happened in the past.

You might understand your patterns logically. You might even be able to name what’s happening in the moment. Yet, your instinctual reactions feel impossible to break.

That doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong. It often means your system adapted in the best way it could during an overwhelming time in your life.

Trauma therapy can help you begin to shift those patterns so you can feel more present, more steady, and more connected to yourself and your life.

Not by erasing the past. By helping your nervous system finally register that you’re no longer in it.

Trauma Counseling in Naples FL

What you’ve been carrying isn’t your personality. Trauma therapy can help you put it down.

Trauma is more common than most of us realize, and rarely looks the way we expect. Around 70% of adults will experience at least one traumatic event in their lives.

Trauma isn’t defined by how severe an event “should” feel, or how intense something looked from the outside.

Rather, it’s about how it lived inside you and how your nervous system learned to respond.

In trauma therapy, we don’t try to erase what happened or pretend painful things never happened. We don’t try to get rid of your nervous system’s ability to protect itself.

Instead, we help your system finally process events of the past, so the old patterns soften and your present stops being run by your past.

Real ease is possible. Feeling safe in your body, trusting yourself, moving through life without the constant bracing. Most importantly, you don’t have to do this alone.

What Is Trauma?

Trauma is not about the event itself. Instead, it’s the experience of your nervous system becoming overwhelmed by threat or a loss of safety. And the way your system holds digests information over time.

Trauma can look like…

  • Someone you trusted betrayed you. A partner or parent hurt, violated, or deceived you in a way you never expected.
  • You had to take care of your parents and be perfect. You learned to manage others’ emotions and needs while putting your own aside. Now, you feel responsible for everyone around you to a debilitating point.
  • You experienced something that made you fear you might die. An accident, medical emergency, assault, or other frightening event left your body feeling unsafe afterward.
  • Someone violated your body or sexual boundaries. You experienced sexual abuse, assault, coercion, or another violation that changed how you experience safety and intimacy.
  • Your family blamed or criticized you. As a result, you learned to take responsibility for problems that weren’t yours. Now, you automatically assume conflict is your fault.
  • A relationship rupture changed how you experience trust. Infidelity, abandonment, or a painful breakup left you struggling to feel safe getting close again.

It’s not about whether something was “bad enough” to count. If your brain and body stored an experience as danger, it can still affect you long after the experience is over.

Shift From….

  • Shutting down, pulling away, or finding fault in relationships
  • Present, open, and connected, even during difficult moments
  • Irritable, easily triggered, and lashing out in anger
  • Pausing, responding with intention, and feeling more in control of your reactions
  • Overthinking and second-guessing every decision
  • Trusting yourself and moving forward with more clarity and ease
  • Carrying tension in your body and feeling on edge
  • Calm, rest, and a sense of safety in your body
  • Stuck in shame, “not enough”, and fatally flawed
  • Understanding your patterns and feeling more secure in who you are

How Trauma Treatment Supports You

Resourcing and grounding

Safety and pacing come first. Therapy is a steady, nonjudgmental space where you don’t have to push through anything before you’re ready.

Understand your patterns

Together, we trace how your past is still showing up in your present so your reactions stop feeling confusing and start to make sense.

Process and shift stuckness

Some experiences your system never fully settled still carry weight in the present. We help it finally complete what got interrupted.

Trauma Therapy Intensives

Trauma work often benefits from longer, focused sessions that give your nervous system more space to process without repeatedly stopping and starting. I provide trauma therapy primarily through EMDR intensives, offering focused time and space for deeper trauma processing.

Each intensive includes 10 hours of support: preparation, two 4-hour therapy days, and follow-up integration. The longer sessions allow us to stay with the work without rushing or stopping every 50 minutes.

If you’re interested in exploring whether IFS therapy could support your trauma healing through weekly sessions, feel free to reach out.

Why choose Danielle Sethi Therapy?

Safe, paced approach

Trauma work happens at the speed of safety. We move at a pace your nervous system can manage, never pushing past what you feel ready for.

EMDR for memory reprocessing

A research-backed method for helping your brain reprocess stuck or distressing memories, so they no longer feel as activating or “stuck” in the present.

Heal your relationship with yourself

Get to know the protective parts of you (like fight, flight, freeze, or shutdown) with compassion instead of judgment, and understand what they’ve been trying to do for you.

Relational, supportive approach

Healing happens in connection. Having a steady, attuned presence alongside you can help repair the isolation that trauma often creates.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. This is one of the most important things to know before starting trauma therapy. Many people avoid reaching out because they assume therapy means recounting every detail of what happened.

The approaches I use are specifically designed so that you don’t have to narrate your trauma in detail to heal from it. EMDR works by helping your brain reprocess the memory at a neurological level, often with minimal verbal description of the event itself. IFS works by building a relationship with the parts of you that are carrying the trauma, not by forcing you to relive it. You get to move at a pace that feels safe. Nothing is pushed, forced, or excavated before you’re ready.

Trauma isn’t defined by how dramatic or intense an event looks from the outside. It’s defined by how it was experienced on the inside and how it continues to affect you today.

If you find yourself easily triggered, struggling with trust, feeling emotionally numb or disconnected, replaying certain memories, or noticing that old wounds keep showing up in your relationships , those are signs that something significant happened that hasn’t fully been processed. You don’t need a diagnosis. You don’t need to have survived something “bad enough.” If it affected you, it matters. That’s enough to begin.

Traditional talk therapy focuses on insight. Understanding why you think, feel, or behave a certain way. That understanding can be valuable, but for trauma it often isn’t enough. Trauma lives in the nervous system and the body, not just in conscious thought.

You can understand exactly why you react the way you do and still find yourself triggered, shut down, or repeating the same patterns. Trauma therapy works differently. Rather than talking about the trauma, we work with it directly, helping the brain and nervous system reprocess what got stuck and build new experiences of safety from the inside out. Many clients who have spent years in talk therapy find that EMDR or IFS creates movement they couldn’t access through conversation alone.

EMDR intensives are in person in Naples, FL or virtually across Florida and New York.
